How to see the Szklarska Poręba waterfalls in one day

Waterfalls are one of the most popular day trips from Szklarska Poręba. We run the Toy Exhibition in the town centre, and visitors often ask us how to see them in one day. Here are three options — classic, with a pushchair and without a car — with trail closures, tickets and ticket office hours checked in September 2026.

Which waterfalls can you see from Szklarska Poręba in one day?

• Kamieńczyk Waterfall (Wodospad Kamieńczyka) — the highest waterfall in the Polish Sudetes: 27 m, three cascades and a rocky gorge you explore on footbridges and steps, wearing a helmet. It lies on the red trail from the town centre to Hala Szrenicka.
• Szklarka Waterfall (Wodospad Szklarki) — about 13 m, on the border of Szklarska Poręba and Piechowice. From the “Szklarka” national park ticket office on road no. 3, a wide, surfaced path leads about 0.5 km (10–15 minutes) to a viewing platform.
• Mumlava Waterfall (Mumlavský vodopád) in Harrachov, Czech Republic, a dozen or so kilometres away via Jakuszyce — almost 10 m high and up to 10 m wide. About 1.2 km along an asphalt road from the central car park, under 30 minutes, no tickets.

Kamieńczyk and Szklarka are easy to combine on the same day. Mumlava is a good second stop for families with a pushchair or anyone heading to the Czech Republic anyway.

Is the trail to Kamieńczyk Waterfall open?

Since 16 June 2026 the red and black trail section from the car park to Rozdroże pod Kamieńczykiem has been closed until further notice. The reason is road works on the Kamieńczyk road; the town published the Szklarska Poręba Forest District notice on 11 June 2026. Detours are shown only on the map attached to the notice — there are two options, one of them for pushchairs and people with reduced mobility (it covers the approach, not the gorge itself).

• Check the current status in the notices on turystyczna.szklarskaporeba.pl (in Polish) before you set off. As of 14 September 2026 no reopening had been announced.
• From the town centre, the red trail to the waterfall takes about 50–60 minutes according to trail descriptions. These times date from before the closure, so allow extra time for the detour.
• The notice does not say explicitly which car park it means. Check on the map whether the closure affects your starting point — for example the forest car park on road no. 3 or the car park on ul. Turystyczna.

How much are the waterfall tickets?

If you want to see Szklarka and the Kamieńczyk gorge on the same day, you pay 27 PLN (11 + 16 PLN), or 13.50 PLN reduced. Children under 7, Large Family Card holders and residents of nearby municipalities including Szklarska Poręba and Piechowice enter free. On the park’s free-entry days — 16 January, 24 May and 10 August — Szklarka is free, but Kamieńczyk is not. Prices according to kpn.gov.pl, as of September 2026.

When do the waterfall ticket offices open?

In bad weather the park may shorten the hours. When a park ticket office is closed, you can buy the park entry ticket online. There is no ticket office at Mumlava. More: Kamieńczyk Waterfall opening hours.

Day plan: Kamieńczyk and Szklarka (classic option)

14:00	Szklarka Waterfall	Drive along road no. 3 to the small car park at the park ticket office (free according to trail descriptions), or walk the green trail along the Kamienna river: about 1.8 km, about 35 minutes.
15:00	Złoty Widok and Chybotek (optional)	No tickets. From the car park on ul. Matejki about 5 minutes to the viewing terrace, 10–15 minutes to Chybotek.
16:30	Toy Exhibition — Pop Culture Icons	Warm up indoors in the centre at ul. Jedności Narodowej 16: usually 30–40 minutes, open daily until 18:00 (until 20:00 in the summer and winter school holidays).

If you walk back from Szklarka to the centre, take the green trail towards Ponura Małpa rather than the verge of busy road no. 3 — that is the park’s advice.

Waterfalls with a pushchair: Szklarka and Mumlava

Kamieńczyk Waterfall is not suitable for pushchairs: the track is stony and the gorge has steps and footbridges. With a pushchair, combine two other waterfalls:

How to see the waterfalls without a car?

• Szklarka on foot from the centre — the green trail along the Kamienna river is about 1.8 km (about 35 minutes), the yellow trail about 40 minutes; together they make a loop of about 3.6 km.
• Kamieńczyk on foot from the centre — the red trail, about 50–60 minutes according to trail descriptions, plus the detour around the closed section.
• Mumlava by train — line 311 from Szklarska Poręba Górna via Jakuszyce to Harrachov, then the blue-marked trail on asphalt, about 1–2 km depending on where you start. Check the timetable on the Koleje Dolnośląskie website.

Coming from Jelenia Góra? Replacement buses run instead of trains between Jelenia Góra and Szklarska Poręba Górna — according to the town’s newer notice of 31 August 2026, from 31 August to 24 October 2026. An older notice from March 2026 gave 30 August–30 September 2026, so confirm the dates and timetable with Koleje Dolnośląskie. Town buses on lines 1 and 2 (8 PLN ticket from the driver) also run in Szklarska Poręba — check their routes in the timetable.

Are the waterfalls open in winter?

Yes, the ticket offices at Kamieńczyk and Szklarka are open all year. In winter the park removes ice in the Kamieńczyk gorge, Szklarka partly freezes in frost, and on very cold days Mumlava can turn into an icefall. Sources do not say whether the Szklarka path and the Mumlava road are cleared of snow — wear shoes with a good grip. More in our guide Szklarska Poręba in winter.

Can you take a dog to the waterfalls?

Dogs are banned at Kamieńczyk Waterfall. At Szklarka a dog may come on a lead — leads are compulsory throughout the national park. You may walk in Karkonosze National Park from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.
