Wysoki Kamień — a viewpoint peak above Szklarska Poręba

Wysoki Kamień is a 1,058-metre peak in the Izera Mountains rising directly above Szklarska Poręba, with a panorama of the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains), the Izera and Kaczawskie Mountains and the Rudawy Janowickie. The gentlest way up is the yellow trail from Zakręt Śmierci — about 3.1 km and 1 h 15 min.

What can you see from the top?

The summit offers a panorama of the Karkonosze, the Izera Mountains, the Kaczawskie Mountains and the Rudawy Janowickie — one of the best viewpoints around Szklarska Poręba.

What is at the summit?

  • A mountain hut with a snack bar — the town lists Wysoki Kamień as a food stop on its route; the choice of drinks and snacks is limited.
  • A stone lookout tower — according to a visitor report from June 2026, there is a charge to climb it.
  • A free viewpoint by the hut — also with views of the Karkonosze.

Wysoki Kamień is part of the Crown of the Lower Silesian Mountains.

Which trail should I take?

  • Yellow from Zakręt Śmierci — about 3.1 km one way and about 1 h 15 min up; there and back about 6.2 km and 2–2.5 hours. The gentler option, good for families.
  • Red from Szklarska Poręba Górna station — about 3 km and about 1 h 30 min up, steeper.

Both run mostly through forest. The peak is outside Karkonosze National Park, so no entry ticket is needed.

Kids, pushchairs and dogs?

With children, choose the yellow trail from Zakręt Śmierci. Leave the pushchair behind — the town marks its route via Wysoki Kamień as unsuitable for pushchairs but fine with a baby carrier. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Making a day of it

From the centre you climb the red trail to Wysoki Kamień, descend on the yellow trail via Zakręt Śmierci and past an old pyrite mine adit to Zbójeckie Skały and Szklarska Poręba Dolna station, and return by train.
