Końskie Łby — rocks overlooking Szklarska Poręba
Końskie Łby (“Horse Heads”) are granite rocks about 15 metres high on the northern slope of Szrenica, at around 1,290 m above sea level in Karkonosze National Park, near the upper cable car station. A black trail leads to them from the Szrenica mountain hut, and they look out over Szklarska Poręba, the Izera Mountains and the Jelenia Góra Valley.
What are Końskie Łby?
Granite tors about 15 metres high, shaped by weathering — including frost weathering during the last (Baltic) glaciation. You can see cracks running in three directions, the typical jointing of granite and weathering pits.
What is the view like?
The rocks are a viewpoint over the Izera Mountains, Szklarska Poręba, the Jelenia Góra Valley and the Karkonosze (Giant Mountains). They sit on the north slope of Szrenica, facing the town.
How do I get there?
A black trail leads to the rocks from the Szrenica mountain hut. The green trail from Jakuszyce via Hala Szrenicka crosses the north slope about 80 metres above them. The rocks are near the upper station of the Szrenica cable car, so they make a good goal if you ride up.
Do I need a ticket?
Yes, Końskie Łby are in Karkonosze National Park. A one-day ticket costs 11 PLN (reduced 5.50 PLN, as of September 2026); children under 7 go free. The cable car ticket does not include the park fee — see the park ticket page.
Dogs, dusk and winter
- Dogs are allowed on park trails only on a lead, and owners should carry a muzzle. Some trails are completely closed to dogs, including the whole Ścieżka nad Reglami across the slopes of Szrenica to Jakuszyce — check the KPN dog map (opens in a new tab) (in Polish).
- Park trails are open from an hour before sunrise to an hour after sunset.
