Chojnik Castle in Jelenia Góra-Sobieszów

Chojnik Castle (Zamek Chojnik) is a medieval castle ruin on top of Chojnik hill (627 m) in Jelenia Góra-Sobieszów, inside Karkonosze National Park. You reach it on foot from Sobieszów and pay twice: a national park ticket (11 PLN) and a castle ticket (15 PLN).

What is Chojnik Castle?

It is the ruin of a stone castle built in the 1350s on top of Chojnik hill. The hill is in Sobieszów, a district of Jelenia Góra, and belongs to Karkonosze National Park. The castle tower gives an even wider view than the courtyard, and Karczma Chojnik at the top serves coffee, home-cooked lunches and cakes.

How do you get up to the castle?

There is no road to the top — you walk up a marked trail from Sobieszów. Both popular trails start at the “Chojnik” national park ticket point.

  • Red trail — about 1.9 km with about 254 m of ascent. Signposts say 30 minutes, but it usually takes around an hour.
  • Black trail — about 1.6 km with about 247 m of ascent, steeper. Signposts say 45 minutes; in practice also around an hour.

Is Chojnik Castle good for children?

Yes, families with children manage the walk, but the trail is rocky, so a pushchair will not work — a baby carrier is the better choice. Children under 7 enter the national park free.

Is the castle open in winter?

Yes, it is open all year. From November to March it closes earlier, at 16:00, and it is closed on Mondays in those months.

Chojnik Castle — questions and answers

According to the official price list (September 2026), a castle ticket costs 15 PLN (reduced 8 PLN). On top of that you pay the Karkonosze National Park entry fee: 11 PLN (reduced 5.50 PLN) — 26 PLN in total for an adult.

From Sobieszów usually about an hour. The red trail is about 1.9 km, the black trail about 1.6 km and steeper.

From April to October, yes. In January, February, March, November and December it is closed on Mondays.
